MIDI - Msunduzi Innovation and Development Institute
Babu Baijoo is currently the Speaker of the Msunduzi Municipality. Before 2010, he was a consultant with Mediacom SA. He also was the president of the South African Chamber of Commerce [SACCI] in 2009/2010. He also served as the president of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business [PCB] for three years while serving concurrently as Vice President of SACCI during this time. From 1997 to 2002 he served as the deputy chairperson of the Moses Mabida Region of the African National Congress [ANC]. He served on the Chamber “CODESA” representing the Midlands Black Business Chamber[MBBC] in unity talks with then Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry [PCCI] and the Afrikaner Sakekamer, from 1997 to 2002 leading to the launch of the united PCB . During his term as president of the PCB, the founding MOU of MIDI was signed by Mayor Hloni Zondi of Msunduzi Municipality and Vice Chancellor Malegapuru Makgoba of UKZN and the PCB, cementing the partnership in 2005. He also served as the Chairperson of the board of the Youth Enterprise Development Project [YEDEP] and as a councillor of the KwaZulu Natal Musuem. He is married and has three daughters, a son, three grand daughters and a grandson.
